EMPLOYMENT Outside of agriculture, Mindoro Nickel’s exploration and drilling activities, social and environmental surveys, and nursery operations provided employment benefits to some 450 Mangyans residing in the tenement area in Victoria, Oriental Mindoro and in Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro. Direct income benefits for local communities in Mindoro came from exploration activities, generating jobs for some 300 contract employees and laborers.  Hiring was on a rotation basis so that more local residents could benefit from the limited job openings available. Mindoro Nickel – through Aglubang Mining Corporation – also had in its employ 92 directly-hired local employees in 2009. Capacity Building To increase the capacity of Mangyan and community organizations, Mindoro Nickel organized continuing skills training and education programs.  For 2009, a total of 11 training sessions were conducted and participated in by 192 individuals.  Training modules included workshops in strategic planning, cooperative development, finance and bookkeeping systems, crop production and blacksmithing.
